Time is the most personal gift you can give. It is non-renewable! Once it is given you cannot ask for it back. So do you spend your time as a precious commodity?
According to Merriam-Webster dictionary time is 1 a: the measured or measurable period during which an action, process, or condition exists or continues: duration b: a nonspatial continuum that is measured in terms of events which succeed one another from past through present to future. I pose the question; do you understand the concept of time spent vs. spent time? Is there truly a difference?
Time spent deals with consumption. When we consume we are more focused on satisfaction and utilization. Moreover, when we involve those areas we spend more effort planning and making sure we get a return on our investment. Yet does that mean we make every moment planned to be meaningful yet mundane?
We now live in a society where every minute counts. We plan our lives to the nth degree. However, we must plan our free time so it still can entail spontaneity. Creativity is the spice of life and at times we make it up as we go and it can be as beautiful as if it was an immaculate blueprint. Therefore, spent time must happen with purpose in mind and still involve freedom to make it full of the fervor of life.
Keep in mind freedom is the main ingredient of spent time and freedom without boundaries creates chaos. Nevertheless, spent time is when you exhaust up to and including depletion of any resource. Depleting your time is like bankrupting your life. We are compared to vapor regarding our life span in the Bible (James 4:14). So if you think you have time to waste just keep on living and you will look up and have many regrets because time will be running out for you.
Please do not reach your inevitability as a mortal and say, “Oh, why did I spend my time making a living and not a life!” Or, “I shoulda, coulda, woulda have done things differently if I knew my time was so short!” All time is non-renewable but spent time is just a drain on your soul and those you should have given the most.
